Hermitage Country Club – Membership Cost and Fees

Hermitage Country Club is a private, invitation-only club offering several membership classifications. Full membership initiation fees are estimated around $50,000, although the club does not publicly publish current pricing. Monthly dues are estimated near $1,500, equating to approximately $18,000 annually. Membership requires sponsorship by an existing stockholding member and recommendations from additional members. Short Pump’s extensive shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and services are conveniently accessible east of the club. Hermitage Country Club Golf Course

Hermitage offers two private 18-hole championship layouts, the Manakin and Sabot courses, both playing to par 72. Ed Ault originally designed both courses, with Arthur Hills renovating Sabot and Keith Foster redesigning Manakin. Manakin measures approximately 6,965 yards, carrying a 73.1 rating and 133 slope from championship tees. Sabot stretches approximately 7,048 yards, with published championship ratings reaching 74.2 and slopes reaching 138. Creeping bentgrass is used on greens and fairways, contributing to consistently high-quality playing conditions. Mature pines, streams, ponds, lakes, elevation changes, and strategic bunkering create varied challenges throughout both layouts.

Manakin has approximately 38 bunkers and seven water hazards, while published counts for Sabot are less consistent. Memorable holes feature water carries, doglegs, picturesque par-threes, reachable par-fives, and demanding approaches into protected greens. Hermitage’s two layouts provide contrasting challenges requiring golfers to use nearly every club during a round. The club hosted the 1949 PGA Championship at its former Richmond-area course, where Sam Snead captured the title. Hermitage hosted the Crestar Classic from 1983 through 1990, including Arnold Palmer’s final PGA Tour victory in 1988. Other events include the VSGA Amateur Championship, Virginias-Carolinas Team Matches, and annual Tommy Galloway Father-Son Tournament.
