Congressional Country Club – Membership Cost and Fees
Congressional Country Club is an exclusive private Bethesda club offering golf, racquet, swimming, fitness, dining, and social privileges. Estimated initiation fees range from approximately $120,000 to $180,000, although official current pricing remains private. Annual dues are estimated between roughly $12,000 and $18,000, depending on membership classification and club policies. Additional expenses may include food minimums, capital charges, assessments, locker fees, and other services. Membership is highly selective, typically requiring sponsorship, an application process, and approval by the club. Prospective members should confirm current costs directly because publicly reported financial requirements can vary considerably.
Regular golf privileges accompany qualifying memberships rather than requiring conventional public green fees for each round. Guests can play under applicable member-sponsored policies and may face separate guest golf charges. Golf carts are available, while caddies provide another traditional option for navigating Congressional’s courses. Current cart, caddie, and guest rates are not consistently disclosed publicly by the club. Tournament entries, instruction, merchandise, dining, and optional services can further increase annual spending. Overall membership expenses depend upon classification, golf frequency, guests, assessments, dining, and recreational activities.
Congressional Country Club Facilities
Congressional Country Club offers extensive golf, tennis, paddle, swimming, fitness, bowling, dining, and social amenities. Its impressive clubhouse contains restaurants, banquet rooms, locker facilities, meeting spaces, lounges, and overnight accommodations. Members enjoy indoor and outdoor swimming facilities supporting recreation, fitness programs, lessons, and competitive activities. Racquet facilities accommodate tennis, pickleball, platform tennis, squash, and organized instruction or competition. Golf amenities include extensive practice areas, professional instruction, caddie services, fitting programs, and two 18-hole courses. Bowling, fitness programs, dining, family activities, and social events further broaden the member experience.
The club occupies more than 500 acres in Bethesda, within Montgomery County northwest of Washington, D.C. Bethesda provides upscale restaurants, shopping, healthcare, entertainment, cultural attractions, and major employment centers. Nearby Potomac features established residential neighborhoods, parks, trails, and access to the Potomac River. Washington offers museums, professional sports, cultural institutions, restaurants, government centers, and entertainment within convenient driving distance. Congressional’s wooded grounds provide substantial open space despite the surrounding metropolitan development. Members consequently enjoy a secluded private-club environment with convenient access to the broader Washington region.
Congressional Country Club Golf Course
Congressional features two private 18-hole layouts, the championship Blue Course and the shorter Gold Course. Devereux Emmet designed the original courses, while Andrew Green completed a major Blue Course restoration in 2021. The Blue Course stretches approximately 7,818 yards from championship tees and normally plays to par 72. Championship ratings reach approximately 77.7 with a slope near 152, depending on the selected tee configuration. Bentgrass greens and fairways provide premium cool-season surfaces requiring intensive maintenance throughout Maryland’s changing seasons. Rolling terrain, broad fairways, strategic bunkering, creeks, and demanding green complexes define the restored Blue Course.
The Blue Course contains more than 100 bunkers, although exact totals can change following architectural adjustments. Water influences several holes, with streams and ponds creating strategic challenges rather than dominating every hole. The par-three tenth is particularly recognizable, playing downhill toward a green fronted by water. Congressional’s demanding closing stretch provides additional strategic challenges across rolling terrain approaching the clubhouse. Major championships include three U.S. Opens, a PGA Championship, multiple PGA Tour events, and major women’s competitions. Congressional is scheduled to host the 2027 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and 2030 PGA Championship.
