Lake Sunapee Country Club Golf Course

Lake Sunapee Country Club features a private 18-hole championship course designed during the late 1920s by Donald Ross. The restored parkland layout emphasizes strategic shotmaking, broad fairways, contoured greens, thoughtful bunkering, and comfortable walking between holes. Black tees measure approximately 6,704 yards, playing to par 70 with a 72.2 rating and 125 slope. Firm, fast conditions and meticulously maintained putting surfaces contribute significantly to the course’s traditional Ross playing characteristics. Cool-season bentgrass is associated with primary playing surfaces, complemented by carefully maintained rough and surrounding native vegetation. Recent improvements restored expanded green contours, reopened fairway corridors, removed selected trees, and returned previously hidden bunkers to play.

Mapping identifies approximately 52 bunkers across the course, creating strategic hazards around landing areas and greens. Water plays a relatively limited role, with bunkering, elevation, contours, and positioning providing the course’s primary defenses. The 483-yard par-four 16th is especially demanding and represents one of the layout’s strongest championship holes. Ross’s routing also produces memorable mountain views, including dramatic perspectives toward Mount Kearsarge throughout the round. The club stages member championships, leagues, invitationals, outings, and other competitive events during New Hampshire’s golf season. Lake Sunapee’s Ross heritage and championship character have repeatedly earned recognition among New Hampshire’s highest-ranked golf courses.
