Scioto Country Club Golf Course
Scioto features a private 18-hole parkland course originally designed by legendary architect Donald Ross in 1916. Andrew Green completed a major restoration in 2021 emphasizing Ross’s original strategic design principles. Bentgrass greens and fairways provide firm, smooth playing surfaces maintained to championship standards. The championship setup measures approximately 7,170 yards and plays to par 70 for major competitions. Standard championship ratings have been listed around 74.3 with a slope near 142, depending upon tees. Approximately 88 bunkers and two principal water hazards create strategic challenges throughout the historic layout.
Raised greens, demanding bunkering, mature trees, and subtle elevation changes reward accurate approaches and thoughtful course management. The challenging second and eighth holes are frequently recognized among Scioto’s strongest and most memorable holes. Scioto hosted Bobby Jones’s 1926 U.S. Open victory and the 1931 Ryder Cup. The club also hosted the 1950 PGA Championship and 1968 U.S. Amateur Championship. U.S. Senior Opens were contested at Scioto in 1986, 2016, and again in 2026. Jack Nicklaus famously learned golf here under professional Jack Grout before becoming one of golf’s greatest champions.
