Milwaukee Country Club Golf Course
Milwaukee Country Club features a private 18-hole championship course designed principally by renowned architect Charles Hugh Alison. The present course opened in 1929 and incorporates strategic Golden Age architecture across rolling terrain beside the Milwaukee River. Bentgrass is associated with the course, including its fast, carefully maintained putting surfaces. Modern back tees measure approximately 7,177 yards, with the championship layout playing to par 72. Traditional tees around 6,875 yards carry approximately a 73.8 rating and 135 slope. Deep bunkers, firm conditioning, elevation changes, and sophisticated green complexes create a demanding strategic test.
The course contains extensive bunkering, although a definitive current bunker count is not consistently published. The Milwaukee River directly influences several holes, particularly the memorable stretch through the middle and back nine. The par-four 11th features the river, extensive bunkering, strategic driving choices, and a dramatic false-front green. The par-three 12th requires a memorable shot across the Milwaukee River to a demanding target. Milwaukee has hosted the 1969 Walker Cup, 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur, and 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
